Other Activities in the Cody and Yellowstone Region
Don't worry about finding things to do. Cody has plenty to offer!
Tours to Yellowstone National Park
people tour Yellowstone on their own. The park is really big, so you'll
want to allow plenty of drive time to see it. If you have time, we really recommend driving the
Beartooth Highway from Cody and circling down through Yellowstone. The Beartooth Highway is one
of the most scenic drives in America. It's an easy day trip from the
ranch. A lot of guests travel north to Cooke City or to Red Lodge, Montana and return to the ranch through Yellowstone National Park. The scenery is absolutely fantastic.
If you don't want to drive too much, there are tour groups that go into
Yellowstone as well. Usually, they will pick you up from the ranch. Here are a few we like:
YLoop specializes in day trips with at least some (if not a lot) of hiking involved. If you want to get out of your car, yLoop is probably the best fit for you. With yLoop, you will get off the beaten path and get a chance to explore more of the park than the typical tourist. Lunch is included on the trip.
If you intend on seeing wildlife and taking lots of pictures while in Yellowstone, Cody Wyoming Adventures specializes in finding wildlife in the park.
Grub Steak does it all: hiking, fishing, photography, natural history
Cody is the Rodeo Capital of the World! This
is a must for kids (and adults)! The rodeo is every night in Cody at 8pm June through
August. Kids can participate in "pinning the bull" during the event. If you plan on coming to Cody the week of July 4, the professional rodeo is in town, and you may want to get your tickets in advance. The rodeo arena is about 22 miles east of the ranch. Allow about 30 minutes to drive there.
has a couple of rafting companies. We typically recommend Wyoming River Trips. Founded in 1978 by Rick and Ron Blanchard, the owners have been featured on ESPN, Outdoor Life, as well as in Travel and Leisure, Better Homes and Gardens, and Mature Outlook magazines. Contact them at 800-586-6661 or visit their website to see if they have a trip that is right for you. You can also check out Cody Wyoming Adventures for more trips in the area.
If you want to fish with some very experienced guides, try the North Fork Anglers. This fly shop is a must stop destination for our guests wanting the latest information on hatches, conditions, and the
right equipment before they head out to explore the waters of the
region. The North Fork Anglers have been featured on ESPN and TNN. If you are looking for a custom trip, our guests always come back with very good reviews.
The Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody has five museums that you will want to see. Make time to learn about Buffalo Bill, the Plains Indians, the natural history of the region, and take a look at the Western art and firearms on display. The Center of the West is an affiliate of the Smithsonian and its evident in the quality of the exhibits.
If you are looking for a bird's eye view of the Cody area, take advantage of one of Airborne Over Cody's powered hang gliding flights. With Airborne Over Cody, you not only have the opportunity to see the beauty of the region from above, but you will also be permitted to fly the aircraft as part of an instructional lesson. Your FAA certified flight instructor will work with you to ensure that you feel comfortable. You can even choose whether to fly the aircraft yourself or let him maintain the controls during your first flight over Cody!
